Distinguished and Famous people from Hervey Fraser
📚 P. L. Travers
P. L. Travers, creator of Mary Poppins, was born Helen Lyndon Goff in Maryborough in 1899. Her birthplace was the residence attached to the bank managed by her father. Although her family left while she was young and her writing career developed elsewhere, Maryborough has retained a strong literary association through its Mary Poppins celebrations and interpretation. The connection belongs to the wider Fraser Coast district. One of fiction’s most famous nannies thus leads back to a very particular Queensland bank household.
